NDT Level II Technician
Part-time, project-based NDT Level II Inspectors to support field assignments.

About The Role
Steel City NDT, LLC is seeking part-time, project-based NDT Level II Inspectors to support field assignments scheduled according to client demand. Work volume will vary and no minimum hours are guaranteed. Assignments may include daytime, evening, weekend, or short-notice work.
We are open to candidates certified in one or more testing methods — you do not need all four to be considered. Methods of interest: Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT), and Visual Testing (VT). This is a great fit for inspectors who are semi-retired, independent contractors, or seeking flexible supplemental project work.
Hourly rate is commensurate with experience, certifications, and demonstrated field capability. Multiple certifications or advanced methods may qualify for higher compensation within or above the posted range.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform NDT inspections on assigned projects using certified methods
- Read and comprehend drawings, designs, specifications, and applicable codes or standards
- Determine appropriate inspection methods, techniques, and equipment for each application
- Set up, calibrate, and operate NDT equipment per applicable written procedures
- Conduct inspections to detect flaws, discontinuities, or defects
- Analyze and interpret indications in accordance with governing acceptance criteria
- Accept or reject test objects based on applicable standards or specifications
- Accurately document inspection results for formal reporting
- Prepare and sign inspection reports
- Maintain equipment in proper working condition
- Mentor and guide Level I technicians and trainees as needed
- Communicate professionally with clients and company personnel
- Follow all safety policies, procedures, and site-specific requirements
REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / DOCUMENTATION
- Valid and current Level II certification in one or more of the following NDT methods, issued under SNT-TC-1A, NAS-410, or an equivalent employer-based written practice:
- Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
- Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)
- Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT)
- Visual Testing (VT)
- Candidates certified in only one method are welcome to apply; multiple certifications are a plus
- Verifiable field experience and copies of certifications required prior to assignment
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to travel to job sites
- Ability to travel within the regional service area (approx. 2-hour radius of Pittsburgh, PA)
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and professionalism skills
- Ability to work in industrial environments, including outdoors
- Ability to stand, climb, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs as required
- Must comply with all safety and client site requirements
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
(NOT REQUIRED)
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification
- Experience with ASME, AWS D1.1, API, or other applicable code inspections
- Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT) or TOFD experience
- Experience in structural steel, pressure vessel, piping, or power generation environments
