ULTRASONIC TESTING - UT

Ultrasonic Testing utilizes high frequency sound energy for surface and subsurface examinations. Ultrasonic inspection techniques will provide details regarding flaw detection in both raw material and welds, measurement of material thickness, and dimensional measurements. Ultrasonic inspection systems consist of several components including a pulser/receiver, transducer, and a display device. The transducer introduces high frequency ultrasonic energy into the test piece or material in the form of waves. When a discontinuity or defect (such as cracking, corrosion, and inclusions) interrupts the wave path, part of the energy is reflected back from the discontinuity and is displayed back on the screen of the display device.

Our technicians utilize equipment that is calibrated by a Level II prior to each inspection, and also calibrated by the manufacturer each and every year to ensure the most accurate inspection possible. We are capable of providing information on any flaw including location, size, severity, and depth. Flaws we are able to identify include, but are not limited to cracks, voids, disbonds, lack of fusion, lack of penetration, porosity, and slag inclusions. We utilize UT in any number of industries and applications such as welds, forgings, raw material, structures, bridges, railways, turbines, and storage tanks, among many others.

Certifications and Standards that we are able to test to:

  • ANSI/ASNT CP-189
  • API 1104
  • ASME Standards
  • ASNT SNT-TC-1A
  • AWS D1.1
  • AWS D1.5
