ABOUT THE ROLE


Steel City NDT, LLC is seeking a full-time Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to join our team. The successful candidate will perform weld quality and structural inspections across a variety of industrial and commercial projects throughout our regional service area. This position offers competitive pay and the opportunity to grow with a dedicated, ISO 9001:2015 certified NDT firm based in the greater Pittsburgh area.

Salary is commensurate with experience, certifications, and demonstrated field capability. Candidates holding NDT Level II certifications in one or more methods may be eligible for additional compensation.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


• Perform weld inspections per applicable codes and standards (AWS D1.1, D1.5, ASME Section IX, API, and others as applicable)• Review and interpret Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Performance Qualifications (WPQ)• Witness, document, and verify welder qualification testing• Verify that welding materials, procedures, and equipment comply with project specifications• Perform visual inspection of welds, base materials, and joint preparation• Interpret weld discontinuities and apply accept/reject criteria per governing standards• Prepare and sign inspection reports, daily field reports, and nonconformance reports (NCRs)• Read and comprehend drawings, specifications, and applicable codes• Communicate professionally with clients, contractors, and company personnel• Maintain equipment in proper working condition• Follow all safety policies, procedures, and site-specific requirements

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / DOCUMENTATION


·     Valid, current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification — required ·     Minimum 2–3 years of verifiable field weld inspection experience preferred ·     Experience with AWS D1.1 structural steel inspection required; D1.5 or ASME experience a plus ·     Copies of current certifications and verifiable work history required prior to assignment ·     Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for travel to job sites ·     Ability to travel within the regional service area (approx. 2-hour radius of Pittsburgh, PA) ·     Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to work independently ·     Ability to work in industrial environments including outdoors, at heights, and in confined spaces ·     Ability to stand, climb, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs as required ·     Must comply with all safety and client site-specific requirements

PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS (NOT REQUIRED)


·     Level II certification in one or more NDT methods (UT, MT, PT, or VT) issued under SNT-TC-1A, NAS-410, or an equivalent written practice ·     Experience with API 1104 or ASME B31.3 piping weld inspection ·     AWS Certified Welding Supervisor (CWS) or Certified Welding Educator (CWE) ·     Familiarity with IBC/structural fabrication shop inspection
